Robert 'Dark Star' Smith ran a custom bike painting business in Dallas, Texas called Dark Star Custom Paint. The chopper that Dark Star is riding was his prized possession as it is one last frames built by legendary bike builder Denver, of Denver's Choppers.
Dark Star appears in a number of books, notably “Harley People” where Garry Stuart also interviewed him the day the pictures were taken with his son, Harley, in 2001, during Daytona Bike Week.
I chose this picture to re-imagine because I love the sheer joy in Dark Star‘s expression. In that moment, life was perfect.
